My first ever review on a restaurant.
So I saw a video of Simon and Martina Stawski talking about a capsule toy sushi restaurant in Japan. I want to try it but I don’t want to waste a thousand dollars to fly to Japan just to try 50 dollar sushi and get a toy. Luckily, I found a similar restaurant in San Diego, California, USA. It’s called Kula Revolving Sushi Bar. Today, I went there to try. It is not a luxury, delicious sushi restaurant. It’s more like an express sushi bar, but the food is ok to me (Well I’m not very picky actually).
You can choose the dishes and pick up from the revolving belt. It costs $2.50 per dish. Sometimes, people pick up all the popular dishes (tuna, salmon, albacore…) before they reach you. In that case, you can order directly from the iPad (Yes! An iPad). You can also order other dishes, such as bento box, soup, dessert…I tried their miso soup. Too salty in my opinion ($2.50 for one piece of tofu and some seaweed leaves with a lot of broth :D).
I didn’t try their ice cream but I heard that it’s good. If anybody has a chance to try, please let me know. Oh and guess what! You can check out using the iPad. You just press the check out button and the waiter will bring the bill to your table. How cool is that? You do not have to wait for them or call them over.
Oh and the most important thing about this restaurant that makes me want to try is that for every 5 dishes, you will have a chance to win a capsule toy. We, party of two, ate 15 dishes, which cost about $40, to finally win a $1 capsule toy. It’s a small salmon nigiri eraser. Some people may say that it’s not worth it. I know. However, I like the feeling when I win something. If you go to other sushi restaurants, you’ll probably pay the same price, but you do not have anything in return. For this restaurant, you can win a small toy (well depending on your luck, and I was lucky today).
Finally, waiting is an issue there. We had to wait for 45 minutes before we could have a seat. But it’s worth to wait 😀
If you have a chance, give it a try 😉 and let me know whether you like it or not. If you are seeking for a gourmet, luxury, delicious sushi restaurant, Kula is not your choice. But if you’re like me, who just wants to try new things and to win toys, Kula is the place.
Ciao! And see you in the next review ^_^
P.S: Pictures of some dishes that we ordered. I forgot their names TT_TT
